Just about every late autumn we receive visitors to the grove that cheer up the weary cold days of winter and among these visitors are the White-throated Sparrows. They enjoy seed, berries and fruits, as well as dig into leaf litter to search for grubs. (This is a good reminder that if you can have an area designated to stay a little on the wild side, many songbirds thrive on grubs and such found in leaf litter during these long cold months.) There are two variations in colour, the tan and the white striped. Interesting fact is that when the adults seek out a mate in the spring, they will always choose a mate with the opposite colouration then what they are. They have a lovely song along with a couple of other sounds. The song sounds very much like "O oh Canada, Canada, Canada"~
