Winter's Song Birds~

Welcome to the last day of January 2014...yea~

That means that tomorrow is the first day of February and that means, getting closer to Spring.

By the calendar and the marked seasons, that may work, but actually we have had snow the ending of April before.

We have not had so much snow, but rather frigid, brutal cold temperatures.

Our water has been kept running for 2 weeks and the pipes still froze, but thankfully did not burst.

My Google blog is no longer allowing me to upload my images like I have done for 4 1/2 years.

This is the third week that I had to upload them individually...what a hassle, but at least that still works.

Evidently at one time, or another I signed on to Google circles and such and I have no clue how any of that works and can only make my way there from time to time.

I cannot even access my gmail, e-mail account, so if you have sent me anything using that method, it has been months since I can get in and even changed my password.

It is as if I am now an alien on my own blog and other Google accounts.

Maybe if we get a really deep snow, I will spend an entire day, trying to figure out what has happened, but for now, it is just once a week for me on my entries.

Side note...I post to Mosaic Monday on Sundays, but usually cannot get to visit other blogs until either Monday evening, or sometimes Tuesday.  I post to Wild Bird Wednesday on Tuesday, and I usually do not get to view those posts until Wednesday, or even Thursdays, but I do finally make my way.

We have 2 computers, one is easily used for such things while the other is not and so that is where I post many entries to Facebook, which so far does work.

This week my entry celebrates Winter with snow birds, Carolina Wrens, Blue Jays, Downy Woodpeckers and Red-bellied Woodpeckers.

Have a great week~

I sadly remember a time that I was not so fond of Blue Jays, and then a couple of years ago, I cared for one for 6 weeks, that changed my mind.
They are great birds.
I have shared my not so happy to have Red-bellied Woodpeckers pounding holes into our all Cedar wood home, but they are pretty~

Thirty three years ago, I saw my first Carolina Wren and I fell in love...
They are the sweetest little wee ones and they are very near our front door all year long~

Unlike the Red-bellied Woodpeckers,
the Downy Woodpeckers,
do not hammer on our home and so we welcome them~

I hope that wherever you live, that you are happy, safe and warm.
Take care~

  8. Hi Mary. Seems like others are having trouble with Google messing them about. I'm just touching wood right now - ow that hurt.

Sorry, I had to laugh about those darned peckers making holes in your walls. Not too big that a patch or two of filler can't fix I hope.

I'm sure you're right about Blue Jays too. Just like some people who intially irritate you they can seem quite likeable once you get to know them and their ways a little better.

Hope the warming continues - here and there.

Interesting about those Snowy Owls- some turned up in Europe too.

    1. Thanks Phil and everyone who may view this, not sure what to do about Google...it stores all of my thousands of Picasa images, it holds all of my over 1,020 blog posts and just not sure how to get this resolved. If you Google ;) the error codes, then you just get to a conversation thread of others having same struggles, with no real solution...I have tried everything that they suggest.

As for the Woodpeckers...their holes are about 4 to 5" and they will sometimes try to place a nest in hole, OR even worse a Gray Squirrel, will go into hole and make it larger by gnawing on it and it is really awful. The husby has to go up three stories to fill in hole. The neighbors had so many holes after they had gone on vacation, that neighbors hung grocery plastic bags all over the house to try and stop the woodies ;(

SNOW 6" over night, with a layer of icing first...more snow coming tomorrow afternoon and evening with icing coming for Wednesday morning...enough said...Winter...sigh and I fell for third time Saturday...wounded my pride and my 70.300 lens...ready for Spring~

  9. Nice photos! We have the jays, wrens, and downy's, but no Red-bellied Woodpeckers this winter. We've always had a pair at the feeders in the past.

  10. The Carolina Wren is lovely.
I hope you are soon out of the deep freeze! Spring is sure to come, but it's hard to remember that when you are experiencing day after day of below-normal temperatures. We have jays here on the Island, but they are Stellars Jays.

  11. What delightful little characters you are sharing with us this week Mary. I just love coming to visit. Your yard must be a symphony of bird song.
What a hassle about your internet accounts/access/etc. Such a hassle and a time waster! I hope you can sort it out soon.
Stay warm and have a wonderful week. So when does spring start?

  12. Your photos are always spectacular. Birds are such pretty creatures. I confess to being partial to the blue jays because of their color. The iron scroll work photos are also very pretty, especially with the woodpecker.

  13. Oh, and I meant to say, how frustrating about Google. I try to stay away from Google Plus and Google Circles. I can never figure them out and they just make my life more complicated. Google wants to take over the world, I think.

  14. Oh, Mary, those blue jays are so bold and blue against the snowy textures. They stand out and they know it! The wren looks like such a sweet and humble little bird, doesn't it? And of course, the woodpecker, stubbornly pounding away, getting his way, is no surprise. Your last collage of the wrought iron scrolling on the gate/fence, and the way the woodpecker is positioned, seems like he's part of the actual design!

Have a lovely rest of the week!

  18. Hi Mary. I can sympathize with you with your blogging problems as Iwas not able to upload any photographs, at least you see to be able to stil do that. I use goggle chrome which seems to work best but one hing that might have been causing the problem, that some of my regular up dates had not been up dated and blogger.google apparently is ver sensitive to these things. anyway, all your collages are gorgeous.

  19. Great pictures - I'd like the chance to take some pictures in the snow - but that's not going to happen for a while!

  20. Another collection of delightful photographs. I just adore your Blue Jays - they are stunning - we have Jays over in the UK but they are plainer beige and you just get a tiny flash of blue when they fly past you - not nearly as attractive. The little wren is also gorgeous - you captured all your birds so beautifully.
Good luck with your Google problems - hope they are sorted soon.

  21. Lovely Jays you've got over there, and those other birds, wow, I love the woodpeckers.

  22. Beautiful pictures as always. Looks like the cold weather is still with you. We have finally had a Red-shouldered in Idaho. People traveled hundreds of miles to see it. Thanks for sharing.
