Rusty Blackbird Upon Leaving Wyoming~

Upon leaving Wyoming and re-entering South Dakota, I saw this Blackbird while waiting for my husby to make some changes in our trunk carriage.   As I waited, I spotted this lovely Blackbird and was taken by it sweet eyes and the sound of it's voice was really neat.  It was not until we arrived back home and I had time to look it up to realize that it was a Rusty Blackbird and back in the 1960's it's population had declined by as much as 90%.  It was really a delightful little bird to observe, and so glad that I was able to~

Our Meaka is such a great traveling companion for us.  She seems to love every minute, so long as she is by our sides~

Yep, it is lop-sided, for I took it out the car window and we were driving a little over 70 and well, it was a fun shot anyway~

Another former Eagle, or Osprey nest~

More downed and diseased trees, due mainly to insect infestations~

Have a beautiful and safe weekend~

  3. You know a lot about birds! Your photos are great, a lot of them show great reflections in the water. Such a pity that so many trees are ill.
    Thanks for your visit!

  5. Rusty Blackbird, I had to look that one up Mary. Seems its member of the grackle family and suffering population decline because of loss of habitat. Some things are the same the world over. Have a great weekend and keep snapping and blogging.

  9. Hi there - what a great set of pictures - I like the reflections. I also suppose that the dead trees will be great nest sites soon.

I had a look at you profile and in the "books" section I saw that you read many books about nature. You may find it interesting to keep an eye on my "book review" page on my blog as I post reviews there - and many of the books are focused on nature and landscape.
