Did You Know That Dragonflies Smile...Frogs Too~

When neighbors around my home go on vacation travel journeys, some of them will allow me to care for their yards, gardens, pets and wildlife. This past week, I did this for 3 neighbors and with my own schedule, it has kept me busy. One of the families have a small pond with frogs and fish. Where there is a pond there are also always going to be Dragonflies.

*Note...all images were taken with a handheld Nikon D-90 camera with a 70/300 lens set on macro~

Green Darners...

Female and Male Whitetailed Skimmers~

The Green Frog was sitting in a smaller pool and I nearly missed viewing it from it's hiding amongst the pond reeds~

I hope that everyone has a very nice week and that you take lots of photographs to share!  Stay Safe~

  1. When the sun shines the Dragons smile ... super set of images Mary.

More rain here so may be a while before my lens can seek out some similar smiling faces.

  3. Mary,
The dragonflies at the top are all Blue Dashers. And you have a male Widow Skimmer mixed in with the Common Whitetails. Fun photos BTW>

  5. Seriously good pictures you took there Mary. I've heard of baby sitting, dog sitting and even cat sitting but dragon sitting, that's cool and a highly inventive way of making yourself at home.

  6. I have been told that my Green Darner is actually a Blue Dasher and that one of my Whitetailed Skimmers is actually a Widow Skimmer. I must confess when I look at the Dragonfly/Damselfly Guide for KY, there are no Blue Dashers, or Widow Skimmers in our region and thus said, I had to ID as best I could with what I had. Thus said, thank you Randy Emmitt and also Pete Gustas from facebook, for helping me out! I tried to leave a comment like this on my own blog this morning, and it would not work, will attempt to do this again now~
