Five Wee Little Friends Took Their First Flights~

Five wee little friends took their first flights day before yesterday, and I was so pleased to have been at the door as they departed. We have had a nest in our nest box at the front door for nearly every year the 30 years we have been here. The adults have a nice series of songs and I know what some of them mean, so when they began their call to have the young fledge, I was ready at the door. There are usually 3 young ones, but this year there were five. I had wondered why the adults were hardly ever in the nest box, even the first few days after the eggs hatched, they seemed to cling to the outside of the box as you can see in one of the images. One ended up on the air conditioner, one at the garage shed, another on my car, one in a wreath at front door, and another in a patch of ivy, all made it safely through their first day and now are across the lane, hopefully doing quite well. I know that their parents were sure busy the last couple of days at our door, so I can only guess they are even busier these days, but the fledglings will learn quickly and be on their own soon~

  3. They're cracking little birds Mary, and thirty years? It's amazing how birds are so faithful to one site, but then if it safe and secure are they so different from us?
