Say Hello & Now Say Goodbye~

Recently I was driving over to have some Nana time with my two year old twin grandsons Cullen and Kerrick and came upon a Red-eared Slider crossing the road. I decided to pick her up for a quick visit first with the boys. They were so excited to say hello and I had to explain that we were also going to have to say goodbye to her. Their momma/our daughter Hillary and I walked them across the lane where the pond was.  After a brief visit to get to be able to touch the turtle's back and see her up close, I placed her on the ground. The twins waved goodbye as the turtle made her mad dash into the water.

Later the same day, arriving back at home, I heard the sound of a Yellow-shafted Flicker. She was on the outside of her nest hole, which this species uses yearly. She later basked in the afternoon sun a bit before returning back to her brooding duties~

  1. That's a great looking turtle Nana. It's so good to introduce young children to wildlife early on and watch their innocent amazement at creatures we take for granted.
