New Look, New Breeding Season~

It is just about been twenty months since I began this journey. It has been such fun getting to view your beautiful images, to get to know you and to be able to call you friends. Reaching out across the country, over the seas far away, in such a splendid way, as sharing nature and wildlife through the eyes from behind the lens of the camera. Passion in each of your own individual styles.



I had used a simple black background for these many months and then decided a couple of months ago that I should like to change the appearance a bit. For me colours can become a real challenge, for my palette always returns to the same hues. I fumbled around with different ones and landed on the one closest to what places me in my "comfort zone." My husby always holds his breath when I decide to change the colour of a room. I will go to every paint store and gather up truly hundreds of paint chips and then begin the elimination process. Then the final choices are taken to a sunny window, and then to the great outdoor light and then finally after days of lamenting, I make my final choice.


Hoping that you like what you see in this final choice that I have selected. I thought that my old one got backed up, yet evidently that was not to be the case, thus once I clicked apply to changes, it appeared to be a sign that change was going to take place and there was not going to be any changing my mind.

Red-shouldered Hawks are to me, one of the most beautifully coloured Birds of Prey. The females are larger than the males and their colouration just to me seems more striking, whereas the males are a bit paler. Recently, the single young one from last spring's breeding season was taken by a Great Horned Owl. The immature Red-shouldered Hawk in these images was not our young one, but one that lives within a mile of our home. While I understand and accept nature, I still miss seeing and hearing the one that claimed our two acres as it's own.

The adult pair which I have been writing journals on and photographing since 1999 ( began seeing them in 1996 ), are now courting, and soon breeding will take place. Two days ago, the pair was loud and all over the grove, chasing one another, yelling and soaring. The day before yesterday the female stayed two acres away from our home and yesterday, I could only hear them in the distance. Nest selection and building will begin any day and we are so hoping that they will choose a place close to home and where there will be freedom for me to share them with you once again~
