What a Beauty, This One~

Amazingly, I had to have help with the identification of this beauty. For all the time I have spent around these Red-Shouldered Hawks, the fantastic red streaking on this juvie surprised me, for the ones in our area, are usually more of a deep rich chestnut streaking, but then again, it could have been the way the light was shinning on this bird. It was quite large and so my guess it very well may have been a female. This young one resides approximately a mile from Tingsgrove~

*Note, a special thank you to Peter Gustas for always lending me his great mind on the correct identification of raptors when I need a final word.  I later found that I had taken the images of the back of same hawk and then it was absolutely clear to me that Peter was 100 %.  Never hurts to be sure~

  1. Nice BIF shots Mary and it does indeed look a very colourful, wellmarked if wary individual.

  2. By surrounding ourselves with Nature, we too can take flight and spring forth in direct relationship with all that we encounter in our environment.

A beautiful encounter that makes one feel the youth and vigor of aliveness.

  3. Beautiful pictures and post. At times we all need help with bird id. It is sometimes difficult to tell the difference between to birds.
