Finding and Tucking a Treasure~

It is one thing when a creature finds a delectable treasure, yet another thing to find a great hiding place to tuck it for later. Many times, I have watched as one bird will tuck something away and within minutes either another songbird will come along, or even a squirrel and take what was hidden. That being said, this Red-bellied Woodpecker probably also found many nice tidbits that another had also hidden away, so it all balances itself out, or at least I hope it does~

    You got yourself a lovely set of images there Mary. The bird is so well lit in the sunlight and looks very colourful against the tree and background. What a great gift a bird feeder was for your father in law, I bet he was really pleased.     Are you sure about your ID? Looks like female Red-bellied Woodpecker. Either way it is a beautiful bird. We get Red-breasted Sapsuckers here and they drill tons of wells into my neighbor's birch tree.

    Great post. Our chickadees hide sunflower seeds in the trees and sometimes they start to grow.

    The photographs are gorgeous, as are the ones above of the yellow.bellied bird above! What a wonderful gift you gave your father-in-law! I'd love to have a bird feeder, but I have no way to put one, living in an apartment. I love to watch the birds who visit the trees in the back of the building.
