Juvie Hummer Taking Over the Perch~

As far as I can remember, I had never been so close to a lovely little, very little young hummingbird before. It was ever so friendly and while the adults are all sporting their territorial squabbles, the young one was allowed to come and partake with out too much harassment from the elders of the bunch, and there are a bunch of the Ruby-throated hummingbirds right now. Six perches and you would think that they would give each other a break. I finally outsmarted the coons and have been able to have 3 feeders going for them in recent weeks...yay~

  1. Nice close-ups Mary. You even captured the tongue coming out in the last picture. Such a young one that it looks like it's not long from the nest. Have a great week.

  3. Such a lovely little creature. I enjoy the detail in these shots, esp the first photo where he turned his head for us to view.

  5. OH, my! Just stunning! You'll have to tell me how you've outsmarted the coons because my coons are smarter than me! I've moved feeders all over the place trying to keep the coons out of them, and nothing has worked.

I've said for years that NASA should employ a bunch of raccoons if they're ever having issues figuring out how to get into something!
