Beauty & the Beast, Not Really~

At first this lovely caterpillar took up a defensive posture position, since it felt threatened, but later settled down to crawling around, up and down different stems, searching for the one bush that it will need to transform from caterpillar into the beautiful Spice bush Swallowtail Butterfly.  The markings are meant to scare off would be predators.  It sort of reminded me of some kind of sea creature out of it's element~

  1. Wow wow and wow...Both the caterpillar and butterfly are splendid! Really colorful and beautiful shape... I found the caterpillar very funny with these two eyes and small mouth, probably a trick against predation ;-) The black of the butterfly is pure and magnificent... You got wonderful pictures of both of them. Well done!

  2. Mary you got some gorgeous pictures of that very beautiful swallowtail. The caterpillar is amazing too and must appear very scary to a predator. Nature is just wonderful and thank you for sharing that little bit of it with us all.
