Yellow Swallowtails Sunning Themselves~

Part 1 in a series of 3~

These two Yellow Swallowtails were basking in the sun, after spending most of the afternoon in the mud of an almost dry creek bed.  One was slightly smaller and had a slight tear on it's right wing and the larger one was a stunner, just a perfect specimen.  All day I watched the two of them and it was a most fascinating day of learning and wondering, for in all of my years, I had not ever seen this happen before.  I kept thinking that they should have been hanging out on some beautiful flowers somewhere, but that was not to be the case...more to follow tomorrow~

  5. Mary,
Nice photos of the male Eastern Tiger Swallowtails. Hard to get two to bask in the sun in one place like that.

I just did a huge post on butterflies from our WV mountain trip.
