I want to believe that this may "basket chick"~

Let me begin by saying these images are not the best quality, yet I had to share them for a good reason.  Over the past few years, there have been several nest attempts by our pair of Red-Shouldered hawks, and several have failed.  Yet in the past 3 years, while there has been failure, there were also three attempts with a total of five that made it to their juvie years, and hopefully even on into their adulthood.  There is a place that I sometimes drive to, park the car, and take a good walk.  The other day, I did just that.  The place is less than two miles from our home.  As I was walking, I watched as a Red-Shouldered Hawk dove down and caught a bird and then another one began to soar up near where the other one had been.  In my imagination, since it was ever so near our property, I want to believe that this may be one from the nests that I helped keep safe.  It may be that one of these two was even one of the two former"basket chicks".  Whatever the case, it is thrilling to contemplate these possibilities~

  1. I think you did a fine job. These hawks were apparently soaring and difficult to shoot . Keep us posted on the progress.
I took a couple pictures of the Red Tailed hawk near us this afternoon, and I can see a bird sitting on the nest. I just wish I had a more powerful lens.

  3. Those birds look as if they are healthy and strong, soaring as high as they can!

I had to google to find out that there are no Red-Shouldered Hawks in Europe.
