Cherish is my favorite word, and I cherish the ability of turning the routine into a beautiful moment.

I watched with great wonder and it was witness to one of nature's best secrets..nest building... ~

Last year a pair of American Robins built their nest in a hole that a Woodpecker had once made in a hollowed out tree.  A pair of Robins began making another nest in the same hole and I watched with great wonder and it was witness to one of nature's best secrets..nest building... Once the site was selected then began the gathering of grasses, even some left over Easter basket grass that one of the grandsons must have dropped.  Then there was the trips to the creek for mud and a worm for nourishment every once in a while.  The Robin would then use her body to form the well of the nest, with her tail straight up and wings outside the hole. I could hear her feet pattering swiftly away as she used them to pat in the mud to mold it just right and then use her beak to pull in the grasses to place into the mud molded nest she was forming.  What great fun this was to observe first hand~

  1. What amazing pictures you have gotten. Beautiful! How lucky for you to be able to watch them build this nest. Maybe you will be able to get the babies pictures too.

Thanks for worrying about us.. Tonight some ash should come in our directions, but not as much as there is in the south. We'll see tomorrow morning how it goes!
