Cherish is my favorite word, and I cherish the ability of turning the routine into a beautiful moment.
Nature creates in me, a spiritual and meditative time to bring peace, harmony and balance, into an otherwise ordinary day~

She was barking up a storm and making sure that her young would not come out while the intruder was near~

For many of our thirty years on the grove, we had a large wild Dogwood tree that was home to gray squirrels.  One day a couple of years ago, the top of the tree just fell away, leaving a lagre hole down through the middle of the truck.  To this day, I wonder how they keep dry from the elements, yet they continue on with their nesting and raising of young in that same tree.  In these images, I show the female defending her nest from a cat lurking beneath her nest site.  She was barking up a storm and making sure that her young would not come out while the intruder was near.  These squirrels breed in both January and in June and thus she most assuredly had young in nest~

  3. Attractive creatures and nice Pics mary but they are considered a pest over here because they have out-competed the natural Red Squirrel. What is their status your way?

  4. Ah...what an adorable and smart mama squirrel! I love that first photo! I never see baby squirrels from my Fox Squirrels...they must look grown by the time they come to the feeders. I certainly have plenty of adults around. Surely there are some babies out there somewhere.
