Cherish is my favorite word, and I cherish the ability of turning the routine into a beautiful moment.
Nature creates in me, a spiritual and meditative time to bring peace, harmony and balance, into an otherwise ordinary day~

I went back and this time there were 4 eggs and she was in her Killdeer broken wing mode~

When I captured the series of images of the Red-Shouldered Hawk with the Field Mouse, I had actually gone looking for something new for me and my blog. The hawk was outside my left side car window and the Killdeer was outside my right side car window. Once the hawk had flown off with the mouse, I turned the car around for better view of the Killdeer. She stood straddling her nest and looked like she just might lay an egg before my very eyes. She stood there for the longest time and then gave up and walked away. I got out of the car and there were already two beautiful pebble sized eggs in the very shallow ground nest. Two days later... yesterday, I went back and this time there were 4 eggs and she was in her Killdeer broken wing mode. I was worried that her broken wing game would draw attention to her from a hawk that might see her and left after a few photographs were taken. I have alerted the church where the nest is, so the groundskeepers can be careful not to disturb~

  1. Beautiful post Mary - reminded me of a similar experience a couple of years back with a Red-capped Plover here in Australia.
