I have gone through my "Field Guide to Birds of North America" twice and I am still not certain what one of these two species is~

OK, so I have a slight challenge here in that I have gone through my "Field Guide to Birds of North America" twice and I am still not certain what one of these two species is.  Thus... any help out there would be appreciated.  The first set of photographs at the bottom is of a Field Sparrow.  The two photographs at the top of this post, I would guess is a species of Sparrow, just not certain which one~

  1. I thought the top two photos were a House Sparrow female. I have plenty of them living at my house and if it isn't, it looks much like them!

  2. Hi, this is my first visit. You have a very interesting blog. Beautiful pictures.
I checked in my Sibley's and Boy oh boy this is a tough one. It does look similar to a adult nonbreeding Golden- crowned sparrow or maybe a cross. I just really don't know. With all the weird weather the south has been having this bird could have been blown off course too.
These sparrows can be so hard to define especially this time of year.
I'll be returning ... Stop by my blog if you get time.
    Have a great evening.

  3. It mostly looks like a House Sparrow but those strong lines down the back don't.As Becky suggests could be an amalgam? Phil - AnotherBirdBlog
